Commissioner Jose M. Guerra
Commissioner Jose M. Guerra is known for being a hands-on commissioner. A retired business-owner, he always participates in City events to lend a helping hand. He is active in charities that raise money for cancer and diabetes research. And, many times he raises money by barbequing at events and giving the proceeds to charity.
Commissioner Guerra has a love for music and believes everyone should have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument. He sponsors a music program where children can learn how to play the guitar, bass, flute or learn how to sing for a nominal monthly cost. He also participates in Bingo nights in the senior community center by providing food and/or increasing the winner's jackpot.
Commissioner Guerra is a graduate of South West Senior High. He's held supervisory positions in the medical care and towing industries. His passion has always been to help people, which is why he decided to become a public servant by serving as a City of Sweetwater City commissioner.
Commissioner Guerra was born in Manzanillo, Cuba in 1957. At the age of nine, he moved to the United States. He is married to his wife Elizabeth and has four boys.
